Tyrrell P34 - Books, magazines, websites, technical blueprints, art, Replica, Continuation...

It may sound contradictory, but as much the Tyrrell P34 has ignited the imagination and aroused curiosity, it is difficult to find dedicated publications to this original formula one car. Not that these publications are out of print, which is sometimes the case for the few that exits, but apart from those very few car modeling Japanese magazines, it seems that no author or editor has deigned to publish a book on the iconic 6 wheeler F1.

Here are some
titles and photos of these rare publications that you may find on sale online, often at relatively high prices.

GP Car STORY Vol.26 Tyrrell P34

Tyrrell P34 1977 (Joe HONDA RACING PICTORIAL SERIES by HIRO No.2)

Tyrrell P34 1976 (Joe HONDA RACING PICTORIAL SERIES by HIRO N°6)

Apart from those specific magazines, the only book I've found about this car is an old english title (published in 1977), which was actually about the whole Tyrrell team and how it was managed, but the book have the advantage of focusing on the Tyrrell 1976 season, so there is some interesting insight about the P34. However, the amount of technical information is quite limited and general.

I hope, someday, someone like maybe one of the very few lucky P34 owners will come up with the idea of publishing a technical book like the ones that already exists for example in the Hayne's "owners workshop manuals" series, which inclued titles about classic legendary F1 cars such as the Lotus 72 and the 78/79, or the Brabham BT52...

Meanwhile, you will surely appreciate the animation video below from an excellent italian series (yes, it's italian commentary, but with the help of animated images, you would easily understand what it's all about), with a very interesting technical insight. Images will talk for themselves anyway...

And for a more conventional 2D technical overview from the famous Giorgio Piola, here's an Autosport video :

Some interesting stories in this new video from VINwiki channel:

Luckily, if book authors are rare, the artists that have been inspired by this fascinating racing car are much more numerous. So I will let you enjoy a video from my own Youtube channel where I have compiled some works of art on the theme of the 6-wheeler Tyrrell P34, with, as the only background music, the sound of Cosworth and other F1 engines from the golden era.

Finally, one can compensate the lack of literrature about the Tyrrell 6 wheeler by searching the large amount of information available about this car on the Internet.

I've found at least one dedicated web site on this matter, which is quite informative. It's here >> project34

Here's a video where 1979 F1 world champion, south african Jody Scheckter talks about one P34 he ownes, in his garage full of some of his old racing cars.

And, in case you didn't know about it, there's a replica, or as they call it, a "continuation" of the P34 that have been built following the exact plans of the chassis #9, by CGA Race Engineering, based in Warrington. That exact copy was commissionned by Jonathan Holtzman, an american racing driver who competes in the Masters Historic Racing Formula One championship. The result is unbelievably accurate. Hats off to the team !

But hey, you don't need necessarily a wallet full of tens of thousands dollars to build and drive a 6 wheeler single-seater 😉...
