The Amalgam collection is to the world of model cars what a manufacturer like Hublot is to the world of fine luxury watches. Their artistic, artisanal production of limited and unique models for private collectors, racing drivers, supercar owners, companies and world-renowned automobile manufacturers is of a level of craftsmanship superior to that which can be found in renowned scale models manufacturers catalog.
Founded in 1985, Amalgam created refined architectural models for leading British and German architects, prototyping products, such as parts for the very first Dyson vacuum cleaners. As early as 1995 Amalgam created miniature cars, such as the F1 cars of Jordan and Williams Grand Prix, Ferrari, then other manufacturers and teams from the world of motoring, motorsport and design followed.
Amalgam’s design, management and development HQ is in the UK, producing their
bigger editions in Hungary and China.
According to Amalgam, they use confidential CAD data from manufacturers and race teams and benefit from close cooperation with their design and engineering departments to achieve a perfect reproduction of the details of each model.
As for classic models, knowing their rarity and visual complexity, and that CAD data is unavailable in their case, Amalgam team is sometimes obliged to find copies of these original cars which are in perfect condition, unless it is the customers' own models that commissioned the reproduction to scale, in order to digitally scan them to capture precise proportions and details, including internal mechanical parts. Photography is also used to reproduce the finishes and details.
Amalgam models are made from resin. CAD design, 3D printing and CNC machining are combined with traditional machining and manual labor techniques. Developing a 1:8 scale prototype can take over 4,000 hours, and each subsequent copy takes between 250 & 450 hours to cast, fit, install, paint and assemble.
Finally, unlike other manufacturers who produce on a large scale, quality control includes careful examination by the car manufacturer whose model is reproduced and also by customers to ensure the quality and accuracy of the reproduction.
Amalgam's productions are highly sought after by collectors due to their extreme precision, artistic quality and the fact that they are produced in very limited editions.
