1981 Dubaï Grand Prix

To celebrate the tenth anniversary of the United Arab Emirates, the Al Nasr Motor Sport Club organized the first Dubai Grand Prix in 1981. It was actually the 1st ever international motor race on closed circuit in the arabian peninsula.

Among the many festivities and Formula 1 parades, the temporary circuit hosted a one-make pro-celebrity race on 16 Citroën CX saloon cars. No one of the top invited drivers were taking it serioulsy, and it turned out quickly into almost a demolition derby. Maybe not the best motorsport image to bring to a region with no motorsport background and culture, but it was fun anyway.
