There are Grand Prix that we can not forget, which still etched in our memory even if the end result is not necessarily what we hoped for as a spectator.
The 1990 Mexican Grand Prix is one of those memorable races, intense until the end.
In the opinion of the winner of that day, namely Alain Prost on his superb Ferrari 641, it was probably his best win.
Starting 13th he made a steady and methodical comeback worthy of being taught in all racing schools, offering with his then-teammate Nigel Mansell a festival of spectacular and exciting overtakings until he was approaching his eternal rival, Ayrton Senna. The latter, in agony with his tires worn to the end, could not resist the Ferrari steamroller.
But we were not at the end of our emotions. The two second drivers of the 2 top teams that were Gerhard Berger and Nigel Mansell were going to fight in the last laps an epic battle made of overtaking and counter-attacks which would end with a final breathtaking passing of Mansell from the outside of one of the most dangerous curves of all of the F1 championship circuits, only one lap from the end!
That was a Hollywood suspense that we rarely get to see in F1.
This victory of Prost was followed by 2 other magnificent successes of the French champion at home circuit in France, then in England. That was too much for his teammate Mansell who announced after his retirement at home his intention to retire. Decision he would come back to later.
Nevertheless, that day in Mexico, in the company of the "Professor", he offered us one of his most beautiful shows that we will never forget.
