1990 Mexican Grand Prix

There are Grand Prix that we can not forget, which still etched in our memory even if the end result is not necessarily what we hoped for as a spectator.

The 1990 Mexican Grand Prix is one of those memorable races, intense until the end.

In the opinion of the winner of that day, namely Alain Prost on his superb Ferrari 641, it was probably his best win.

Starting 13th he made a steady and methodical comeback worthy of being taught in all racing schools, offering with his then-teammate Nigel Mansell a festival of spectacular and exciting overtakings until he was approaching his eternal rival, Ayrton Senna. The latter, in agony with his tires worn to the end, could not resist the Ferrari steamroller.

But we were not at the end of our emotions. The two second drivers of the 2 top teams that were Gerhard Berger and Nigel Mansell were going to fight in the last laps an epic battle made of overtaking and counter-attacks which would end with a final breathtaking passing of Mansell from the outside of one of the most dangerous curves of all of the F1 championship circuits, only one lap from the end!

That was a Hollywood suspense that we rarely get to see in F1.

This victory of Prost was followed by 2 other magnificent successes of the French champion at home circuit in France, then in England. That was too much for his teammate Mansell who announced after his retirement at home his intention to retire. Decision he would come back to later.

Nevertheless, that day in Mexico, in the company of the "Professor", he offered us one of his most beautiful shows that we will never forget.

1964 Mexico Grand Prix

The Mexican Grand Prix had that special that it goes down in history as the Grand Prix where the Scuderia presented itself with blue and white Ferraris and not red as was the tradition for Italian racing cars at that time.

The explanation is that it was not the Scuderia Ferrari which was officially entered but the North American Racing Team (NART) led by Luigi Chinetti, the importer of Ferrari in America. The reason was a disagreement between Ferrari and the Italian federation which, according to Enzo Ferrari, had not supported him enough when it came to homologating the Ferrari 250 LM for the 24 Hours of Le Mans

Ferrari had requested that it be homologated in GT category, but the decision was made to homologate it as a Prototype. Quite disappointed, Ferrari decided to return its manufacturer's license to the Italian federation and to entrust the cars to NART, which had therefore repainted them in blue and white, the national colors of the United States in international racing.

At the end of this race, the title went to John Surtees on his white and blue Ferrari

Another unique fact in the history of Formula 1 on that day, is that was the first and only time that a motorcycle world champion was also crowned as F1 world champion.

Bathurst 1000 Km - Mount Panorama

The Bathurst 1000 km race on the Mount Panorama circuit is a myth in Australia and New Zealand. It has been around since 1960, and is a major event in that remote part of the planet which attracts around 200,000 spectators each year.

Its nickname of 'The Great Race' is well deserved since the 1000 km to be covered on the "Mount Panorama" roller coaster are a challenge for any racing driver and car.

The twisty circuit winds through the mountains on a public road closed for the occasion. But we must not forget that there is also this famous straight called Conrod Straight, an abbreviation of "connecting rod" which indicates that the place has long been a graveyard of engines, the fastest cars can go close to 300 km/h there...
